Frequently Asked Questions:

How far in advance should I book my services? To be sure your spot is secure, at least 14 days notice is needed at this time. However, I sometimes do have cancellations and last minute openings. If you have any needs for last minute bookings, please do not hesitate to ask!

What extra steps will you take to ensure the best and safest care for my pet(s)? As the owner of Trail Waggers, my very top priority is the safety of your pet and your home. All doors will remain locked and I will not answer the door for anyone I am not expecting to be visiting during my time there. I am insured and certified in CPR and first aid, and continue to keep myself educated so that I may act quickly and responsibly in the event of an emergency. I always keep a small, basic pet first aid kit on me, and will always be able to transport your pet to a veterinarian, should there be a need. No matter the size of the dog(s), I will not walk more than 2 dogs at a time. In some cases, I may only walk one at a time. All dogs may use your preferred collar and/or harness, unless I see it unsafe (which will be communicated with you, as the owner). I walk all dogs on my own leashes and double leash each dog for extra security, should they slip out of their gear. For your dog's safety, if there are any concerns of eating stool and/or foreign objects, I am more than happy to come up with solutions that allow your dog to continue receiving fun and interactive services, while staying as safe as possible. All pets will have a fresh water bowl when I leave the home, and any pet staying in a crate while I'm gone will have their collar removed to avoid a choking hazard. All cats must remain indoors during and after services, with the exception of a secure catio.

My pet is reactive. Will you still care for them? Each pet with a history of reactivity and aggression is taken case by case. When filling out your "Become a Client" form, please include details of your pet's behaviors. I try to give every pet a chance to allow me to make my decision based on their in-person meet and greet, but in rare cases I may decide that I am not the best fit for them without a meet and greet.

Will you make sure my pet receives their medication even if they're not good at taking it? I have lots of experience giving not-so-cooperative pets their medicine (the majority of that experience being dogs). I will first utilize all my options for making their medication fun and yummy for them (peanut butter, cheese, etc.). If your pet is still having a difficult time taking their medicine, I may decide to refrain from causing any discomfort to maintain a positive experience and relationship between your pet and me! For medications that are absolutely necessary for your pet's overall wellbeing, I am comfortable with pilling, though that is a last resort method. I will always reach out to your first, before making any decisions.

How will you care for my pet(s) in bad weather? Trail Waggers works rain or shine, and even in snow! If the weather is just a little too bad to be walking in, I will be sure to give your dog(s) a potty break, and we will enjoy some indoor activities. One of my favorite games to play with dogs in rainy weather is "hide and treats" where your pup can sniff out their treats that I hide around the room! If you don't have any treats at home, I am also happy to provide a frozen peanut butter, pumpkin, or yogurt filled treat for a small additional charge, and 24hr notice! If the weather is too dangerous for me to travel, I will give notice as early as I porribly can. I do recommend having an emergency contact of either a neighbor or nearby family member who would be able to drop-in for your pets in the event that I can't make it to your home.
